L Is for Let it All Hang Out!?!

Blogging is a much more personal experience than article writing--at least it can be. Blogging is where you can choose to be your authentic self or try on any--or many-personas. You can blog under your own name or a variety of pseudonyms.

The decision of how much of yourself you are willing to divulge to the world at large can affect your career, whether that be as a freelance writer or an x-ray technician. It can also be affected by age. Teenagers living at home, for example, may not want to blog freely about family matters or teen angst--at least not under their own names.

Just as Facebook entries have cost people their jobs or livelihoods, so can blogging. It's just something to consider as part of your determination for how much of yourself you are willing to reveal.

  2. this post is so true! I know when i first began blogging, i kept my true self (and everything going on around me) sort of away from the blog. but you get to a point where your real life and your blog life intersect and you have to make a decision.

  3. On my blog I really try to keep to the subject of my blog. While I am me, in the way I "speak" on my blog I won't reveal a whole lot of personal information.
Found your blog via the A-Z challenge. Following You! Come on over and say "hi".

  4. I agree, you gotta be careful what you're saying because it's not your personal diary. Some write it like that but it is very public. I think the best thumb rule is to think of who would you want to read this.

  5. I think of my audience, but I don't go crazy over it. I write what I want to write and sometimes people say, "She told that about herself?" But I don't rag on others, just poke fun at me. Glad I found your blog on the A-Z.

  6. You've all made good points. As writers, we are always putting ourselves out there in one way or another, but blogging is perhaps the most personal experience of all.
